Sacred Land for Sale

Tamanowas Rock is an area south of Port Townsend which has long been a  “sacred place” to the indigenous peoples  in that area.  It has fallen into the  hands of a developer, and is now for sale for  $1.65 million. As a protest work, this sculpture was offered for sale for $1.65 million; if it sold, the artist intended to purchase the land and return it to the tribes.

The bones and earth in this sealed jar were collected from the ground beneath an eagle’s feeding perch at the top of the rock, and documented by GPS.
